Union of Catholic Mothers

The Union of Catholic Mothers is an organisation whose aim is to promote marriage and family life and to offer love, sympathy and practical help to any family in difficulty. The UCM is likened to an oak tree - the roots are the foundations and our foundation in Rainham was started nearly 40 years ago.

Membership is open to all Catholic women, married or single and mothers of Catholic children.
Meetings provide fellowship, friendship and a blend of spiritual and social activities. The UCM have an annual national pilgrimage to Walsingham and Diocesan pilgrimage to Aylesford.

Our foundation meets on the first Wednesday of each month and we currently have just over 35 members who come from St. Thomas's and St, Augustine's churches. We are always pleased to welcome any 'new faces'.

Each year we fundraise for a chosen charity and hold the following events: a cheese and wine evening, a quiz night and a Carol Concert. At some of these all members of the Parish are welcome. We also have Mass at Aylesford followed by a fish and chips supper, Mass at the shrine of St. Jude followed by a shared supper and a Birthday Mass and party.

At other monthly meetings we have had talks, demonstrations and even 'Bingo!!'. We also have an annual dinner and we are always ready to help at Parish special events e.g. Bishop's visits, Confirmations etc.

Please see the Parish newsletter for details of our meetings and come and join us.
You don't have to attend every meeting and new members are always very, very welcome.
